It’s not all hard work at Open Road West Norfolk as Downham Market’s Swan Youth Project  found out when they visited.

Youngsters from the project, which offers positive activities for young people during the summer holidays, took part in the charity’s popular go-kart building course — and then got to put their creations through their paces on the race track.

The self build kart kits were assembled under supervision during a two-day programme in Open Road’s professionally equipped mechanics workshop.

The aspiring motor mechanics learned about the kart’’s components, how they went together  and the tools needed to assemble them safely, before heading off for their track tests.

They were delighted to take part in the course and excited to drive something they had made themselves.

Open Road now runs four go kart projects a year and they cost £80 per person —though the cost is often covered by bursary.

Projects have also been held for West Norfolk Young Carers and On Track the Matthews Project which supports children and adults across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, with issues around substance misuse and wellbeing.
