Qualification Information
These qualifications are primarily designed to engage and motivate 14-19 year olds who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry. The qualifications' combination of mandatory and optional units provides learners with the flexibility of achieving and progressing in small manageable steps. The qualifications have a practical approach to assessment and include many visual questioning techniques, which will stimulate and interest the learner. This approach also appeals to and helps those students that may have limited literacy or numeracy skills. This training can also be converted into a Young Apprenticeship programme for schools.
IMI Awards qualifications include the vocational subject-based learning component of *Foundation Learning. The qualifications include the option to select the Personal and Social Development (PSD) units within the qualifications that also meet the Foundation Learning programmes' current requirement for credits of personal and social development learning, which support learners in their preparation for work life.
In addition to the above qualifications, Open Road training improves individual self confidence and esteem, develops and encourages team participation and group working skills that are expected in the modern work place and leads onto further education opportunities and apprenticeship work placement.
*Foundation Learning is the name given to education provision at Entry Level and Level 1. It is a part of the wider 14-19 and vocational qualifications (VQ) reform programme. It aims to improve the skills of learners by helping them gain credit-based qualifications at Entry Level and Level 1 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which can then lead them to appropriate destinations such as, Level 2 qualifications, supported employment or independent living. The level 2 (VQ-QCF) qualification is just in the development stage (due for release December 2010). All qualifications will be under the QCF after December 2010. At this point all levels will be interlinked (e.g. when completing Level 1 you will be able to use some of the units from Level 2). In December all NVQs will become VCQs (Vocational Competent Qualifications).
