For Teachers
“Downham Market High School has been involved with the Open Road project during the academic years 2009-10 and 2010-11 and cannot commend it highly enough. Students were given the opportunity to participate in the project for one day per week during the course of this academic year. These students were keen from the outset and have developed their communication, team building and leadership skills in a structured and supportive environment. The project has enables these students to succeed with nationally recognised qualifications being obtained. Open Road provides students within school a genuine alternative in which they are able to succeed and have their success celebrated. This, in turn, has a positive effect on them for the days on which they are in school. Students participating in the programme have been much more focused learners due to their involvement in the project. Downham Market High School values the close working relationship that we have with Open Road. It is very much as an extension to the provision offered in school and students know that their actions in school will have repercussions at Open Road and vice versa. Open Road is a professional organisation which is focused in its drive to enhance the opportunities available to young people in West Norfolk.” Matt Ridley, Key Stage 4 Leader, Downham Market High School
OPEN ROAD WEST NORFOLK (ORWN) is designed for Year 10 and 11 students, both male and female.
At ORWN our goal is to provide you with an alternative practical educational tool. It allows you to refocus students' aims whilst they earn a nationally recognised qualification which leads to real workplace apprenticeship opportunities.
ORWN works closely with your school to help identify those students who will benefit the most from attending our predominantly practical learning and assessment courses.
Like you, we appreciate that not everyone is the same. Some young people can be better developed in a traditional educational environment, for others, it's the hands-on practical experience that helps them become better equipped to take their place in society.
Building individual confidence and self-esteem, ORWN also helps in developing team participation skills and is as much a part of our ethos as helping young people obtain a professional qualification – IMI AWARDS ENTRY LEVEL CERTIFICATE for the INTRODUCTON to VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY.
As part of the OPEN ROAD AND SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP we provide a 4-weekly student review with the school. The review encompasses elements including: standard of work, concentration, attitude and teamwork as well as attendance, timekeeping, health& safety and self-discipline. We are confident you will experience anuplift in student in-school achievement both during and after their enrolment with OPEN ROAD WEST NORFOLK.
